How it works
The rate now is the one in force on 2026-09-30. The 2027 column is the rate at the end of 2027: where a place changes twice (January and July), the lookup shows both steps. "Set in law" means the dollar amount is written in the statute or ballot measure; "announced" means the labor department has published it; "to be announced" means an inflation adjustment whose figure is not out yet. States with no law, or a rate under $7.25, follow the federal minimum for employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

- Why does a state say 'to be announced'?
- Its minimum wage is adjusted for inflation each year and the 2027 figure is not published yet. We do not estimate it: the page shows when the state says it will announce, and the raise calculator checks against the last published rate.
- Do cities have a higher minimum wage than the state?
- Some do. We track 31 local and regional rates (for example Seattle, Denver, Chicago and several California cities); pick one in the lookup. The highest of federal, state and local applies.
